DOT compliance

The Department of Transportation (DOT) is a United States government agency responsible for setting safety regulations across all major modes of transportation. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is an agency within the DOT that oversees commercial motor vehicles and license holders, trucking companies, and interstate bus companies, aiming to reduce accidents, injuries, and fatalities. These regulations ensure that equipment and operators are always in optimal working condition.

At Radius, we recognize the importance of staying compliant with these regulations to keep your business running smoothly. That is why we are diligent about staying up to date with the latest compliance rules, offering telematics solutions tailored to meet the needs of businesses both in the U.S. and Canada.

Features of our fleet compliance software

  • User-Friendly software: All features are conveniently accessible through an app on the driver’s device. With just a tap, drivers can go on or off duty, take a break with a countdown timer, access DVIRs, switch equipment, edit HOS logs, and more. Automated reminders to certify logs ensure everything runs smoothly.
  • Accurate reporting: Miles driven and fuel consumed are automatically broken down by state, simplifying IFTA reporting and making the process much easier.
  • Privacy protection: The roadside inspection feature is password protected, ensuring that inspectors can only access the information they are legally authorized to view.
  • Data access: With a single click, push ELD data to the platform for fleet managers, and easily upload documents and fuel receipts directly from your device.
  • Flexible options: Change your rule set and apply exceptions, which automatically update the clocks and status options on the HOS screen.
  • Helpful support: The platform features a comprehensive help section with screenshots and detailed explanations of each app function, providing drivers with easy access to answers anytime. Training videos further simplify app usage, making it easy to understand.

Electronic Logging Devices (ELD)

To ensure the safety of both equipment and operators, drivers are required to conduct routine Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) before and after each trip and participate in roadside inspections conducted by Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) inspectors. Additionally, drivers must log their Hours of Service (HOS) to create Records of Duty Status (RODS), documenting their driving hours as well as on-duty and off-duty periods, including mandatory rest breaks.

Radius helps commercial operators maintain compliance by offering a user-friendly, comprehensive ELD system. Our hardware and software solution tracks HOS for accurate RODS, including DVIRs and reports that simplify IFTA filing. The ELD plugs into the vehicle’s onboard diagnostics (OBD) port, capturing data on engine performance, location, speed, miles driven, and more. As mandated by the FMCSA, most commercial operators required to maintain RODS must now use an ELD.

IFTA reporting

The International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) is a cooperative initiative between U.S. states and Canadian provinces aimed at simplifying fuel tax reporting for interstate and interprovincial commercial vehicles. Under IFTA, commercial operators must file a quarterly fuel tax report with their base jurisdiction, which then distributes the appropriate taxes to each jurisdiction based on where the miles were driven and fuel was consumed.

Radius compliance solutions make IFTA reporting effortless by tracking miles driven in each state and automatically generating the required reports. This streamlined process saves time and reduces administrative burdens for operators.

CARB certification

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) certification represents a standard of environmental excellence, signifying that a product or system complies with California’s stringent air quality and emission regulations. Established to reduce air pollution and enhance public health, CARB certification ensures that products are designed to minimize environmental impact. While many consumers and businesses seek CARB-certified products to make eco-conscious choices, this certification is also mandatory for commercial vehicles operating in California.

At Radius, we are committed to keeping our telematics solutions aligned with the evolving needs of the businesses we serve. As part of this commitment, we are currently working to ensure seamless and consistent communication between our software and CARB’s Clean Truck Check system.
