Between 20-23 July, 19 of our colleagues, headed to the Peak District to take on seven challenging stages, expertly designed to test them physically and mentally. They ran, cycled and kayaked over challenging terrain to compete in the UK Challenge.
Split into three teams, the strategy they set determined which routes to take, which obstacles to face, and how best to use the team members to complete each mission.
The three days pushed them to their limits, physically and mentally. However, along the way they forged new relationships, learnt the importance of planning and communication, showed resilience and grew in confidence to perform well under pressure. All learnings that they will take back into the business to build a stronger mindset and enhance their ways of working.
One of the team captains, Simon Cowley, Director of Finance – Insurance, EV and Energy at Radius, said: “Throughout the weekend we worked around the clock to push ourselves beyond what we all thought we were capable of. The UK Challenge definitely took us out of our comfort zones, but we also saw how the diversity of our teams enabled us to harness people’s strengths to optimise our collective intelligence to achieve more.
“The leadership and teamwork we demonstrated has strengthened our relationships across the business, evolving from co-workers to friends. Moving forward in our respective roles, we will be a better, collective Radius team.”
The teams also raised thousands of pounds for Ian Botham ‘Beefy’s’ Charity Foundation. The Foundation supports four individual charities focussed on brain tumours, Batten disease, juvenile diabetes and blood cancer. It was established in 1985 by “Beefy” when leukaemia was a death sentence to many.
